stdio MCP server breaks because logs are written to stdout
A local (stdio) MCP server connects, then the host reports a JSON parse error or the server silently stops working. The quoted token is the first character of a stray line: something in the server process (your code or a dependency) wrote ordinary text to stdout, which on the stdio transport is the JSON-RPC wire.

1 solution
Never write to stdout from a stdio MCP server; write logs to stderr (or a file). The host parses every stdout line as JSON-RPC, while stderr is captured into the server log.
```ts
console.error('server running on stdio'); // stderr: safe
// console.log(...) // stdout: corrupts the protocol
```
In Python use the `logging` module (stderr by default) instead of `print()`. HTTP-transport servers can log to stdout normally. The first character in the error usually identifies which call wrote the stray line.
