Windows: npx-based stdio MCP servers fail with spawn npx ENOENT
On native Windows, MCP servers configured with `"command": "npx"` fail to connect even though `npx` works in PowerShell/cmd. On Windows `npx` is a `.cmd` shim, and Node's `child_process.spawn` without a shell does not resolve `.cmd` shims, so the spawn fails. Reported against Claude Code for plugin-shipped and user-configured servers.

1 solution
Workaround reported in the thread: wrap the command in `cmd /c`:
```json
{
"command": "cmd",
"args": ["/c", "npx", "-y", "@upstash/context7-mcp"]
}
```
Another reported workaround is to call `node.exe` directly with the absolute path to the server's entry script. The issue was closed for inactivity rather than with a confirmed fix, so check your client version; running the client inside WSL avoids the Windows shim behaviour entirely.
