MCP client pinned to protocol 2026-07-28 cannot connect to a 2025-era server
A TypeScript SDK v2 client configured with `versionNegotiation: { mode: { pin: '2026-07-28' } }` fails on `connect()` against servers that still speak the 2025 protocol revisions. Pin mode never falls back to the older `initialize` handshake.
Error

Use auto negotiation unless a hard failure is what you want:
```ts
const client = new Client({ name: 'app', version: '1.0.0' }, { versionNegotiation: { mode: 'auto' } });
await client.connect(transport);
console.log(client.getProtocolEra()); // 'legacy' against a 2025 server
```
Other tails of the same error code (server exits on the `server/discover` probe, 5xx from a proxy, unusable 2xx reply) are listed in the SDK troubleshooting page; an HTTP 401/403 on the probe is a different, auth-related error.
