Claude Code says 'This organization has been disabled' despite an active subscription

Claude Code fails with an organization-disabled error even though the user's Claude subscription is active. An `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY` environment variable (often an old key from a previous employer or project left in a shell profile) is overriding the subscription's OAuth credentials; in `-p` non-interactive mode the key is always used when present.

Unset the variable and remove it from your shell profile: ```bash unset ANTHROPIC_API_KEY claude ``` PowerShell: `Remove-Item Env:ANTHROPIC_API_KEY`. Check `~/.zshrc`, `~/.bashrc`, `~/.profile` (or `$PROFILE` and User environment variables on Windows) for `export ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=...`. Run `/status` inside Claude Code to confirm which authentication method is active.
