CrewAI memory/knowledge: embedding dimension mismatch after changing embedder
A CrewAI project that previously stored memory or knowledge with one embedding model (e.g. 1536-dim OpenAI) fails after switching to another (e.g. 768-dim Ollama nomic-embed-text). The existing local vector collection has a fixed dimension. Current CrewAI also changed the default to OpenAI `text-embedding-3-large` (3072 dims), so stores created with older 1536-dim models may be incompatible.
Error
Embedding dimension mismatch. This usually happens when mixing different embedding models.Environment

1 solution
Reset the stored memory or pin the old embedder until you migrate:
```bash
crewai reset-memories -m # memory (use -a for all, as the error suggests)
```
or delete the local memory storage directory, or configure the embedder explicitly so it does not change underneath you:
```python
memory = Memory(embedder={"provider": "openai", "config": {"model_name": "text-embedding-3-large"}})
```
Note the default embedder uses OpenAI and needs `OPENAI_API_KEY`; configure another provider if you do not use OpenAI.
