Continuing a conversation after a tool call fails with a 400 when the application edits, reorders, filters out or reconstructs thinking blocks from the previous assistant turn (for example by keeping only text and tool_use blocks when saving history).

Error

`thinking` or `redacted_thinking` blocks in the latest assistant message cannot be modified. These blocks must remain as they were in the original response.

Send the entire assistant message back unchanged (including `thinking` and `redacted_thinking` blocks, even ones with empty `thinking`), then append your `tool_result`. If your persistence layer filters content blocks by type, include both thinking block types.
